Not sure how one picks their first post in almost 3 months but hey, I saw these photographs and I thought they were beautiful. Seemed good enough to me.

I’m not certain that the ruins of Detroit have a fairy godmother coming to the rescue, but the images are amazing regardless. How can a entire buildings with such raw beautiful architecture be left to decay?

Secret omission: Sometimes I see these and I kind of want to move there and restore something (something in better condition that the image above)… get a little crafty, keep some of history from disappearing completely. I’m sure it’s much harder than my imagination is making it. But NY makes owning anything with beams seem like a dream.

So… Erie Basin is a guilty pleasure of mine. I like the pretty pictures. I’m a HUGE jewelry fan—even if earrings sometimes make me feel showy, which is weird I know. Cressant rings, like home page image are my favorite shape, but I love this crazy shape of the ring on top. And I LOVE LOVE LOVE the combination of that little spakler and the cosmos. Well, let’s be honest I love any picture of the cosmos. Have you noticed that yet. SPACE!

So… from the top left zig zagging:

Sigh. Again, I’ve been sooooooo long, but I saw these and couldn’t help posting. Wouldn’t they be perfect in a kids room? (I know I’m baby crazy lately, but I’m going to be an aunt for the first time and I can’t help it!) Functional AND educational. Well, functional for those of us without NY apartments, but still SO cute. And, it’s available in black, blue, green, orange, red, violet, white and yellow.

It’s called the AAKKOSET. And available from designer Lincoln Kayiwa… in Finland.

So I know we’re all wondering if I’ll grow up and get over my obsession with bright shiny objects. I’d be willing to bet my love of metals will expand, my love of fluorescents… anyone’s guess. Certainly not getting over it today though (I am typing this with some seriously high-octane pink nails.) Also certainly not getting over it when I see these paintings by Yago Hortal.

I won’t lie, I wish they were bigger (I wish they were city-wide murals that transformed drab blocks into a modern never-never land), and I have no idea what would happen if I actually tried to live with one on my wall (my only guess is increased ADD and dark monochromatic dressing). But I don’t care, I think they’re pretty fantastic, even if just as a digital fancy.

If you weren’t sold yet, Yago hails from Spain, but now lives in Berlin. I mean seriously, if there is one thing I like more than fluorescents it might be Berlin. I’m not kidding.

Yago, you should consider being my new best friend.

It’s back! Poster Friday. Yay.

So this week we’re loving Tweed Tom. I don’t know Tom, so we’ll let his site speak for himself:

Tom resides in London where by day he works as a creative for Antidote and by night draws and fascinates over obsolete mechanical marvels. He is also one fifth of the illustration and design collective Evening Tweed.

Whatever the history, any dork whoever took apart a _________________ (insert name of appliance you took apart, for this little one it was a phone. For the record, no, I could NOT put it back together again) couldn’t help but love these whimsical techy prints.

Anyway, how awesome is that top print? I want to trace it like a maze. I’m trying to decipher what it does. I hope it makes toast! But only if it butters them on the bottom, because Doctor Seuss would LOVE that machine.

Head over heels for these shots by Johnny Miller.

They make me want to scour flea markets and wear sweaters to the beach… They also make want to find that “double rainbow” youtube guy and tell him I’m sorry for laughing. I’m a believer—A simple bit of light and color can truly be amazing.

These book covers designed by Coralie Bickford-Smith are completely swoon worthy. Last year my sister gave me a bunch of the other redesigned penguin classics that I am still working my way through… but these Fitzgerald’s would look pretty nice sitting next to them.

I’ve talked about tee-pees before, actually more than once. I pretty much think they are adorable—I’m a sucker for cozy. This one just takes the cake though.

In college one weekend we made a fort that covered the entire porch and part of the front yard. My house and my neighbor’s house lived in for a few days. It was a particularly fun week of college. I’m sure I loved tee-pees and created structures before that (I have a LOT of memories of building neighborhoods out of old boxes as a kid), but I think that fort really sealed the deal on my heart-fluttering feeling toward tee-pees.

Ah, to have a yard.
